Can't find satellite in the 1st quest of H2GE?

Post by sh1evo »

I just bought the game and thought I'd try "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Evoverse". I got to Erato II and got the guest that says "...need satellite recovered and returned to city...", flew to the nav marker between the planet and the rings but I can't find the satellite. Could anyone give me some help? Sorry for such a newb question. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

You have to keep looking, some times a little further away.

Can't find satellite in the 1st quest of H2GE?

Okay, here's how to find a satellite:

(1) Point toward an exit port while still inside the station.
(2) Throttle up all the way while in IDS mode.
(3) Engage hyper-jump.
(4) After exiting hyperspace, continue on at full thrust.
(5) Watch your radar for the purple blip.
(6) If you see the blip, turn to intercept.
(7) Turn on your tractor beam (Alt B).

If you don't see the blip by the time the distance counter on the HUD reaches zero, then the satellite has probably been sucked toward the planet via gravity (it happens ... that's life). So, if you don't have a Deploy Constructor (which, if you did, would allow you to deploy a sensor station, thereby revealing the location of the purple blip), do the following:

(1) Jump to the center of the small blue box (check the Y axis to make sure you're at the correct altitude).
(2) Right click on the planet.
(3) At maximum allowable speed (~1480), head toward the center of the planet.
(4) Keep one eye on the radar and the other eye out the windscreen.
(5) Eventually, you should see the blip.

By the time you've done all this, the satellite might already be on the ground. You can still retrieve it but, especially if it's under a lake or sea, it'll be a bit harder.

:o P.S. If the contract starts at a city, do not (repeat: do not) jump to the waypoint until you're out of the planet's atmosphere. Else: kaboom! Instead, fly straight up until the HUD ladder switches over to space mode ... then level the ship and jump. All else remains the same.

Thanks!
The purple dot was what l needed. I left the city at 500 and flew at the nav marker. When the purple dot showed up I engaged the tracker beam and headed towards the purple dot and ran into it!

Thanks again for the helpful clues. I've read a lot of your posts and they are very helpful.

Does anything else have a purple dot or do all contracts?

Hello,

There is a lot of flying and searching in this game.

Could be called "Hunt the purple dot".

 All recovery contracts have purple dots. Also, abandoned and derelict items (mostly cargo pods) which are hard-coded to the compiled game file show as purple dots. This includes items called to your attention by the science officer whenever you enter a sector where such items exist.
