That is correct mapaman and I Think the map is correct.
If you compare the vast distances between systems compared to +/- 50 on the Y-axis
it will look very flat wich is correct.

I agree, I did some testing. SY is correctly reflecting the data.

Doesn't that depend on how far you zoom in?
Anyway, is there a way to type coordinates directly into the map page so that the location will show up immediately? The reason I ask is because of the new option in EM whereby you can pay for information and get coordinates to otherwise unknown locations. It would be nice if you could enter those paid-for coordinates to judge the distance from your present position.

Maybe add the feature "Add Way Point"?
A list with editable/removable way points maybe?

Hola.
In text mode for print the waypoint list please
I'm imagining printing a trade route, or to my stations, things like this.
This is a REALLY GOOD IDEA!!From post: 164887, Topic: tid=11029, author=SeeJay wrote:Maybe add the feature "Add Way Point"?

Adding objects are already a feature of the existing map so i am not removing that for sure. No worries.
About tracing. That sounds like a goid idea. Laying out lines is no problem so i will consider adding som kind of planned route functionality. Also backtracing routes ofcourse.

I can see that I'm going to have to get an iPad!From post: 164861, Topic: tid=11029, author=MapMan wrote:Yeah.. I remember those borders being hard to grasp.
Anyhow. I put together a small POC (Proof of Concept) just now regarding mouse navigation in the map itself.

Do you like this approach and does it run well so far on your iPads?
pan is done by holding down right mousebutton on PC and double tap drag (drag with two fingers) on iPad. Orbit on mouse or ordinary touch drag.
This is alpha 0.0001 just to know that it works for you guys.
It has the systems and the wormholes and gates . No drilldown or data or anything. Just dots.

Like SeeJay, I get disoriented when rotating the map. I try to use the two axis indicators ... one of which I assume to be for the Y axis. But I'm not so sure about the other ... does it point toward north (along the galactic equator) or does it point toward +X (I'd suggest a correspondingly rotating compass, but that might be a bit difficult)?

Ok.. New try. The link:

Changed to a 2d navigation with camera placed so the axes makes sense to you hopefully.
Is this better?

The 3D view was really cool, but could a bit confusing.
A 3D map might be a bit overkill since the Universe is rather flat.
The new 2D model looks very clean and nice.
Is it possible to make it change to a 3D view once you're inside a system?

Yes. Inside the systems would be much cooler to have 3d since they actually are spread quite nicely around the axles there.
No problem.
Trying to figure out how to deal with transitions between systems and borders towards other systems. Feels like i need to install the game to be able to try this. Hmm.. Im on a Mac.

They system displayed in game is the nearest planet. Isn't that one of the variables in the file created by the game?
Vice might have updated that file so maybe you should send him an email with the current variables so you'll know what to work with.

I think the system is in the file yes. Hopefully the system names are unique
Ill just transfer the map to the system specified in the file when in tracking mode
Can you send me a sample file SeeJay?

All systems are unique since every planet has it's own "system".

MapMan, if you're referring to the point where the "System" label on the Navigation Map changes from one system to another (as opposed to where it changes over for Reputation or where the color of the nebula changes), then SeeJay is correct: it happens at the midpoint between planets.
Atollski's program used math to determine the location of new planets by tracking the crossover at three (or more) points ... then triangulating. Is that what you're trying to duplicate?

The lines indicating gates ... I'd forgotten how many of them lead out of Riftspace. Is it possible to use color to differentiate between: (a) two-way gates, (b) one-way gates, (c) wormholes?

Given the large size of the evoverse that swamp the relatively small Y offsets (even -46) would it be possible to 'stretch' the Y axis by a multiplier (say x10 - x100 or whatever) to emphasise the above/below plane systems? From post: 164883, Topic: tid=11029, author=MapMan wrote:Thats correct SeeJay. I have that coordinates on that one too but -46 on the Y axle will still look flat im afraid. It is rendered with that coordinate among with some other system. No systems seem to be off more than +-50 from the SY .

A couple of requests that I really really would like to see . . .
Is it possible to show my ships coordinates (both s and p)? They could be given either in the to coordinates box or in the Carrier Data section.
A small thing I realise, but when the map is zoomed to be outside a single system that I'm in, it's impossible to select the system to zoom in on if the tracker is active, which means switching tracking off - clicking on the system to zoom in - tracker on to find out where within the system I am. Presumably the yellow flashing marker is masking the position detection code.
Thanks!

Yo ! I just dropped to say that I support your work, both of you and I look forward to the next gen Evometrics
I second the idea of being able to plot waypoints, I'd realy like some kind of space GPS ! Clic on an object and the shortest route is shown, both in coordinates and number of jumps, and the ultimate would be that when you clic the selected object inside Evometrics, you could have its coordinates injected in the game's "plot a jump" interface... Am I dreaming ? :p

I've been looking at both the online map (http://mercenary.junholt.se/) and the offline data sets available at the download page (http://evochron.junholt.se/menus/downloads.htm), and it seems that the online map and EMUD_Ver4 are not quite in sync with each other. Which one is more up to date? If the most up to date data is not currently available, is there a chance that it might be made available? Thanks!

The Evometrics is still being updated with new systems/objects when I get reports. It uses the same DB as mercenary.junholt.se
The EMUD_4 was uploaded on request and has not been updated for a long time.
Keep in mind that I have no idea of how complete the DB is since I do not know how many Systems, planets etc
Vice put in there LOL!
Do you want an updated excel file with all findings up to this date?
