Quest "Over the Hill" - Released!

Post by SeeJay »

Hi all.

I'm very happy and proud to announce that the Quest
"Over the Hill" is now released for EM.

It's available here:
http://evochron2.junholt.se/quests/over ... hehill.htm

This quest has been a long journey and a really fun Project.
It has been a Community team effort in many ways.
A few of us created it with others to beta test it.

First a huge thank you to Vice for creating the game that allow
us all to create things like this, and also for helping us out with
a lot of questions and even updating part of the game.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Bossk who started to write the story and DaveK for picking it
up, adapting his Writing to follow the original story and
expanding it in all directions to a massive story.
THANK YOU BOTH VERY MUCH!

Marvin for his unremitting efforts in testing the quest, correcting
all my errors and bad English and also teaching me a lot
regarding quest scripting. Without you I would have
never made it. CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!

Busch for proofreading and discovering a lot of errors and
handing me suggestions to improve my Writing.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

All the beta testers for your time and efforts.
3 stands out with being Active all the time and report any weird
stuff to me.
Maarschalk, King Arthur and Austin.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Peter Krol for creating the Music playing in the background
when reding the chapters. THANK YOU!

Several real pilots/Community members has been included in
the quest to honor what they have done for the
game/Community. My intentions is not in any way to try to
impersonate the persons/personalities. If I have offended
anyone in any way, I humbly apoligize for this.

We hope that you all will have as much fun flying/Reading it as
we had creating it. Enjoy.

SeeJay;)

Thanks See Jay, for the more than honorable mention. The true credit rests as laurels, upon those whose skills and spark of intuition created this magnum opus in the first place. All I did was joggle a few elbows. ;) well...maybe....

This epic is different in format from the quest style you might be familiar with - for example the IMG Quest.

Rather than being a series of activities with brief interim paragraphs, SeeJay's new quest is a comprehensive adventure with a lot of background action, split into a series of 'chapters'. At the end of each sequence of in-game quest activities (which still have the interim bits of the story) you will be given a password that releases the next written chapter of the adventure - following up what you've just done and prepping you for what's coming next. The story is split into 16 chapters spread over 140 pages.

Vice has kindly given permission to add a 'prequel' based on the IMG (training) quest, so you can, if you want to, start Chuck's adventures right back at the beginning and follow through his training to become a Colonial Pilot in the Federation Naval Reserve - there are seven (shorter) chapters supporting this part of his story! SeeJay's Quest continues Chuck's adventures after a two decade break!

If you got 'stuck' on the race, then you can download a questfile that starts after the race! :D If you've already started the IMG Quest, you can download a questfile that continues from where ever you have got to.

:)

Busting back down to scratch (again) to give this a run! I know there are pre-made profiles to use, but I've grown quite adept at getting up an running! :) Besides this is too cool to not have as a 'persistent' option for action as I drift from town to town....:P

*** An important bit of information for quest mod users.... *******

When installing an update version of EM, you will have to remove the questtext.dat file from the Evochron Mercenary folder and return it when the update has finished installing. Otherwise, the EM installer will 'revert' the quest mod file to the default IMG game questtext, thereby deleting the custom quest file.

:o Yup, what RC said. When updating to a newer release of Mercenary, the default quest file will replace any other quest file located in your main game folder. So, either drag the file out of the main folder before updating the game ... or re-download the file from Seejay's website afterward.

Thanks for the mention SeeJay. Sorry I was not around to finish the story. My wife is due to give birth to my second son very soon and as you may imagine I have had a lot on my plate for a long while what with her health issues.

I hope you guys out there like the seeds I planted and congrats to DaveK and the rest of the team for finishing it.

Hi Bossk - I hope RL treats you and your lady and your offspring well. I'm sorry that we didn't get a chance to collaborate on the story telling - perhaps we'll get the chance in the future . . . Chuck's adventures have just started, after all :D

I'm really looking forward to this. I've seen it mentioned all over the fora since I started reading and posting. This is evidence of the great community for this game. Also, best of luck to Bossk, the new whippersnapper and the little guy's mom and sibs.

Question:

Is this strictly a single-player quest, or is it possible/advisable to play in multiplayer?

You can do it in both SP and MP and switch between them.
In MP you can ask for help if others are around and some of the Quests are easier done with help from others.
The Quest is doable by yourself but as a new player it would be very difficult since you will not know all the ins and outs and secrets of the game as a new player!.....;)

;) The only parts you can't do in MP are the races. Which is too bad ... it would've been nice if I could've forced SeeJay to do them for me.

ROFLMAO.
I bet you would love to be push me around.

If anyone has really big problems passing the races,
there is the possibility to email me the profile
and I'll do it for you and aend it back.
There aren't many races in the quest tho.

 Considering where you live, that would require a very long stick. And, since my aim isn't the best, would probably result in a considerable amount of ... what's the phrase? I forget. It was on the tip of my tounge. Same as yesterday ... when I wanted to say something about your evil twin having resulted from a ("malfunctioin" ... that was the word) of the Enterprise's (NCC-1701) transporter (I even went looking for the corresponding Star Trek clip on YouTube). But of course, now I remember the word ... but still can't remember the phrase for when innocent bystanders get poked by the stick (very long pole) I'd need to use if, indeed, I wished to push you around (which, by the way, I don't ... especially since you were good enough to offer, as a download, one profile which starts after the first race).

:o Collatteral damage. That's the phrase. I'm not even going to bother to see if I spelled in correctly. But that's the phrase I was looking for.
