I just learned today that they are taking apps for the beta. :D I hope I get chosen. It is amazing what they have accomplished in such a short time. Any thoughts or comments on the game?

How about giving us the Homesite URL?
Then we can all check it out...

It is a game which I don't like to play.
Not a flight sim, mostly like strategy game and other part is shooter (3rd person). I am not interested in.

Beta has been going on since summer. Two problems with the game:
  • The STO forum is littered with infantile postings. Likely as not, the game will be the same.
  • As Warsign said, space combat is 3rd person only. Takes all the "Trek" out of STO.

I went to the Penny Arcade Expo this year, and I had a chance to watch this in action and get my hands on the controls. It is by and large just World of Warcraft in space. This is how it controls and that is why it is not something I'm interested in. Set my handheld phaser to the maximum setting and I had to hit the klingon I was fighting about 30 times. (he was unshielded) This is not the technical simulation that was originally in the works.

Thanks for the info Daedalao. If it really ends up like wow in space I'll be very disappointed.

Keep in mind, those were my first impressions. I was kind of hoping Star Trek: Bridge Commander the MMO. In the initial preview it looked to be a straight technical simulation. Now it has become at least as of September 5, World of Warcraft: Future. There doesn't even seem to be any three dimensional exploration or combat.

That's exactly what I was hoping it would be. Star Trek BC + Kobayashi Maru Mod. That is the best Star Trek experience to date.

t4n3, Kobayashi Maru just makes all of the mods that make it up, play nice :)

I'm really hoping that there is some kind of awesome storyline in Star Trek Excalibur, as that project is shaping up beautifully. Spiritual successor to bridge commander as far as I can tell (considering the guys working on it are guys that made the most demanded mods for BC)
