I noticed Kirk discarding his original choice of weapons in the beginning of the sequence. He tosses a nine inch long twig aside. Hmm....

Before clicking the link, I expected a vid from the episode "A Piece of the Action". You know... "fizzbin". A card game with wacky rules. A planet with a society based on a book "Chicago Mobs of the Twenties", left there some years ago by some early Federation crew, BEFORE the "Prime Directive" was in place.

Hmm... it's an idiom I'm not familiar with... "Original Gangster"? Maybe I'm just slow today. I AM slow today, for a couple of reasons. I'm on certain heart meds that are almost like tranquilizers. I can counter them a little with high grade coffee beans. Grounded at home.

"Original Gangster" = "the Man"? Authority figure? Tough guy? Wacky masochist who likes getting pelted by gorny lizardguys? Herculean thrower-of-large-rocks? Lizard Slayer?

heh heh. Spaceballs. Classic stuff. Intentionally corny, and good at it. The sad thing about Kirk is, when he is corny, its meant to be serious. I have a really mixed relationship to the old ST series. I love it, but at the same time... it just sucks. I think to really appreciate it, you have to be a kid. This was also back in the day of the japanese monster movies. Mothra, Godzilla, Rhodan, and all those. When you are seven years old, that stuff was king. If I saw one now, there would be no end of critisizing it. Hence the tongue in cheek calling Kirk and O.G. Thats sort of a complement, sort of calling him a laughable fool. That fight scene with the Gorn was both epic, and absolute garbage at the same time.

Yes, know what you mean... I saw the first Star Trek episode the DAY that it first aired... I had to look up the *year*; 1966. I was 10 years old at the time. It's strange, I can remember every nuance of the event. We had a black and white TV. Colorado City, Texas. Dust everywhere (it was a period of "big red duststorms"). I remember being enthralled by that first episode. Like with many people, it probably started something.
