Cockpits

Post by Nigel_Strange »

I have no experience with development, but I would like to design a cockpit for EL. I believe that the shape of the cockpit is determined by the ccpit.x file.

How does one generate this kind of file? I hope I don't have to sit there and type it in manually, then bring up the game to see what it looks like.

Is there a modelling program that creates this file, or some kind of way to translate from a 3d model generated by another program (maybe like a dxf file or something) that you use?

Almost any 3d modelling software can convert it's native fileformat to a .x

It's just the standard DirectX model definition :D

Thanks. I'll have to see if what I have renders .x files.

Or if you're new to this, Sketchup might be a friendlier starting point. I use it and prefer it. There's a plugin for the free version which exports to .x

I have Truespace 3, but when I loaded the existing cockpit file, nothing appeared. I suspect this old version of Truespace does not support the latest version of directx, but that's just a guess.

I wanted to see what the default pit looked like so when I made my own, everything would be coordinated with the placement of the mfds and such.
