Hu, heu, err..... *lost*

I downloaded the customization kit to try to understand what you are telling me.
I read section 3 about cockpit moding but... I didn't see any beam offset nor port side....

I was talking about visually. Is the beam inside or outside the gun when looking at it port side?

There are four letters in "left" and four letters in "port" ... that's how I remember my port side from my starboard side.

Think of how most ships dock when they are in a harbour.
Always with the left side towards the port, hence port side!;)

With a few exceptions but in general, that's the case.:P

Interesting little fact there Seejay... didn't know that one. :o

Where does "Starboard" come from? The other side of the ship faces the stars? Or maybe faces towards Starbucks. :D

In the early days of boating, before ships had rudders on their centerlines, boats were controlled using a steering oar. Most sailors were right handed, so the steering oar was placed over or through the right side of the stern. Sailors began calling the right side the steering side, which soon became "starboard" by combining two Old English words: stéor (meaning "steer") and bord (meaning "the side of a boat").

@marvin : I didn't get you were using boat terminology.... sorry about that (and my poor english).

@seejay : Interesting little bits of history. :D
In french the origin is not quite clear. It appeared lately in the french language (around 1484).

The words are "Bâbord" for "gauche" side (left), and "Tribord" for "droite" (right).
To remember, we think of the word "BATEAU" (boat) and we split at the syllabus BA-TEAU BA-=syllabus at the left of the word so bâbord means left and -TEAU (start with a T, this letter is present in DROITE) to the right of the word.

So, to go back to the question Marvin asked a few posts before :
That would be the offset for the starboard gun. Which way is the beam offset on the port side?
You think it's the starboard gun offset that is wrong ? It seems the two side have the same bug. But where could I see the value and the WAY of those offsets ?

You would need a graphics program for building, importing and exporting different 3-D formats. The one I used for exporting to the .x format (used in EM) is Blender. But I'm not sure Blender has an add-on (plug-in) allowing you to import .x files. There are other free programs like MilkShape 3D and Anim8or ... but I don't know about those either. If you find one which allows you to import .x files, it then gets fairly easy. If both laser beams are outside of the guns, you increase the size of the model. If the beams are both shifted in the same direction, you move the model over. (Anyway, those are the things I would try if I was still using the Perch cockpit.)

Or you can check the Customizing Kit to see if there is a way to adjust the beams.

I liked the Perch but stopped using it when the ship, itself, was never finished. Possibly the creator of the Perch had trouble aligning the engine thrust and finally gave up.

Ok, if it involve edditing the 3D model itself, I gave up.

What do you mean about the engine thrust ? Is it just aesthetic or is it changing the ship trajectory ? I thought the perch was only a cockpit mode.

It is. But somewhere among the back pages of the forum is the original post, showing a screen shot of how the model was supposed to look. There are other posts by modelers who created other replacement ships (not the cockpit). One of the questions which always came up was: the engine thrust is in the wrong place for my model. At which time the modeler would be given instructions on how to align the model's engines (or the thrust FX ... I don't remember which).

The modeler for the Perch might've tried to align his engines and just never completed the job.

I as well would LOVE to see perch in EL.
Sadly I tried a simple copy paste already, and in case I'm missing something simple, like filenames, it refuses to co-operate with this version of the game....
In fact at the selection screen between options, training, etc, that's where it seems to have the hangups, crashed right to desktop.
Do, or do not, there is no try.

I doubt the Perch is compatible with EL.
