My key works fine, did you try to rebind it?
Are you sure you weren't doing a contract?

Not done anything to any keys and I was docked after a completed mission.

The function for that key option hasn't changed either, so I don't know what the cause would be if it stopped working for you, other than being on a contract or in another scenario that won't allow saving. Do you see any error messages in the message log when you attempt to save? And just to be sure, you are pressing Alt F9 and not Alt and + and F9, correct? What does your key mapping screen look like for the exit with alt-save option, is F9 listed there?

The Alt F9 quick save feature worked perfectly for me last night in three different Quadrants.
I have Windows 8 Pro and the only glitch I had was a spinning ship after I just got on the game with no joystick control.
Captain Cronic suggested on TS that I delete my SW CFG file in my EM folder. I followed his instructions and existed the EM folder and rebooted my PC.
Logged back into the game and my joystick worked perfectly and I had a blast with Flash, Captain Cronic and Jeremy for hours.

That is another possibility Firedragon. Are you using Windows 8? Another player has reported key function differences in another thread just today and Windows 8 just had a series of updates roll out this week. Perhaps one of them has broken key functionality on certain system configurations for scancode functions in Windows 8 that still work correctly in Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

I'm using Win7.
All was working fine last night. I saw the update today and downloaded it, started the game, completed a mission and tried to save ( AltF9 ). Nothing happened, no error messages.
Coincidentally I can no longer type minus,underscore,plus or equal so looks like the last Microsoft update has messed up my keys

Ok, it could be more widespread then. Do those keys work outside of the game or are they not working at all? I'd like to get more information, to find out if this is specific to certain system types or maybe related to something else:

- Are you using a desktop or laptop?
- What is the make and model of the system you are using?
- If you are using a dedicated keyboard, what is the make and model of it?
- When did you perform the update from MS this week?

Keyboard is a Saitek Eclipse II.
As far as I can tell the non functioning keys are F9, six, minus, underscore, plus and equals. Non functional in or out of game.

Wow, I wonder what was in the Windows update that may have broken those keys on your system. Makes me want to run through my systems and make sure all of their keyboards still work. My Logitech G110 on the system I'm using now is working fine.

Have you tried updating the driver for that keyboard? Does anything change if you unplug it and plug it back in?

The other player ran into a problem where the scancode values for some of their keys had moved (']' returned '\\' for example), but only in-game on their Windows 8 system. Could be related, or it may be a different problem on their system.

Checked the driver. Unplugged it etc...
Looks now like it was a dying keyboard rather than anything else.
Put a spare one on and all seems to be working.

You might have some old spills or crumbs in the keyboard, food and drinks do not mix well with keyboards!.....:P
