small but excellent HUD change

Post by DaveK »

Hi

In the last day or so I saw a post that mentioned that someone has changed a HUD mod so that the targetted hostile was easier to pick out in a furball. :)

(S)he identified which icon needed modding - I didn't write it down there and then - I can't find it again :( Which target icon is it?- I suspect a red "target4"

In the post was a screenshot and the change seemed to be to produce a circle of red dots which certainly would be easier to track. Could anyone point me to the thread please?

Thanks :):):):)

Edited: I've looked through all the posible threads and there it was in Screenshots - the last place I thought of looking! :P:P:P:P:P

Does anyone know what the "active (red) target indicator" file name is? I'm using Maximilien's HUD. I think that it will be target3 or target4.

In the customising kit info they are described as
target3.png = red tracking indicator for target
target4.png = red tracking indicator

so I suspect target3 is the one :)

Hi Davek, it may have been the screen shot I posted in the Screen shot thread. I can send you the file if you sent me an e-mail that I can reply to and attach the file to.:)

Ok, I looked and it is "target3.png"

It's on it's way.:)

As a side thought, you can mod it with windows paint. ;)

 While you're at it, make sure the icon doesn't also use a shadow. If it does, and you don't mod the shadow ... you can come up with some really strange and ghostly images.

It does have one but I left it alone as it does not effect it much (so far:P).:)

 I suppose it would be hard to notice the targeting shadow. But I mention it because, when I adjusted the pitch ladder for one-degree increments, I failed to correct the ladder's shadow. Every time I turned so that the sun reflected off the pitch ladder, I saw these "after images" ... and it took me half a day to figure out what I'd done wrong.

How do you produce a shadow? - it looks like the original icon converted to greyscale and then "inversed" (is that a word? . . . well it is now!) I couldn't find it in the customising kit
