Forum guidelines...

Post by Vice »

Please keep these guidelines in mind when posting (in addition to the regular forum rules):

Do not insult other members, their work, or call them names. 'Friendly' insults in the context of the game for challenges, battles, races, trade, etc are fine (and you should know the difference). But this forum is not a place to lash out grievances against someone else, belittle others, insult them, or call them names. This forum is not your own personal soapbox to post diatribes about unrelated topics or problems you have with someone else. This forum is about sci-fi gaming and other generally related topics, please keep it that way.

Please be aware that new players read this forum and just because you may have played the game for weeks or months and know it's secrets doesn't mean new players do. Many players enjoy the challenge of finding out the limits and end points to a game on their own and do not appreciate other players telling them all about it in the course of public discussions on a forum. So out of respect for other players, please do not post information about high end/secret locations, items, events, trade runs, or quest endings (good or bad). Please keep those discussions private and provide such information only when asked to. The occasional complaint of a spoiler reveal is no big deal (just be sure to mark such posts with * SPOILER * somewhere clearly above where the spoiler is posted), but when I start to get a rush of angry worded messages over multiple instances of people talking about latter stages of gameplay/locations, it does raise the need to share those concerns. So please don't spoil the game for others and don't turn away new players by posting information about the game that many of them want to discover on their own.

I am generally fairly light on enforcing forum rules, but if I receive more than a few complaints about someone's posts, that person may receive an involuntary forum vacation. Other moderators also have full authority to make decisions on rule enforcement and their decisions stand unless by mutual agreement, a decision is reversed after review.

New Policy on Multiple Forum Accounts

The moderators have come to a decision regarding multiple forum accounts. The multi-account option was provided in the past as a courtesy to a few users who were interested in the option for role playing purposes. But it became so broadly used, abused, and exploited (often in efforts to violate forum rules with a 'separate identity' so as to avoid a primary account being moderated), that we've decided to no longer allow multiple accounts. If you currently have multiple accounts, you have been 'grandfathered' in for the time being and won't be subject to account closer unless you violate a forum rule with one of the accounts. The updated rule (#11) applies for all forum users effective January 31st, 2013 on.

New Policy on Personal Conflicts and Other Off-Topic Content

8 - Do not post off-topic information or media. If it isn't space/sci-fi/gaming related, it probably doesn't belong here. Do not post about personal problems or personal grievences on the public forum. If you have an issue with another player, avoid them or take it up with them in private. Such personal 'drama' content will not be allowed on the forum. This is a gaming forum, discussions should be focused on gaming, not personal issues. This rule applies to 'rage quitting' as well, this forum is not for proclaiming departures or discussing them, regardless of motives or emotions. Any comments you want to make on your way out to particular people must be done in private. Anything else will be a rule violation and will be treated as such. If you are not sure if a post you want to make is off-topic, you can request prior approval from a moderator privately via u2u.

The updated rule (#8) applies for all forum users effective February 2nd, 2013.
