[EL] Mod: Replacing the horizontal flares

This is a collection of textures to change/remove the long horizontal optical flare effects in Evochron Legacy.

The textures are used as follows:

mex3.png -- This is the flare used in a few places: When looking at a human ship's engine thrust, when looking at a white/blue sun, when a ship is warping in, the weapons fired from a human capital ship, and occasional blue explosions. There are also *red and *yellow versions of this same texture. The red is used for Vonari ship thrust and capital ship weapons. The yellow appears to be used only as a yellow sun glare.

mex1.png -- This is used in most explosions (the texture is squashed when displayed in game).

mex2.png -- This is used in the thrust from missiles fired by ships or by station defenses (the texture is squashed when displayed in game).

flare.png -- This is the appearance of the countermeasure flares. This new texture has no lens effect, instead creating a white ball with a bit of fuzziness around it to give it the appearance of glowing gas.

navred.png and navgreen.png -- These are the navigational lights on ships. These new textures are solid balls with virtually no glow effect (generally we're in space where there's no atmosphere to cause a glow).

A couple more screenshots showing the mex3.png texture -- one as part of a warp effect seen in the distance and another as a ship's exhaust:

Screenshots on this post are of an older version. These glows are now brighter but smaller, for reasons explained below.

Yup, Option 2 looks to be my favorite, too. ;)

I arrived in a system with a red sun for the first time yesterday and... apparently there's a red version of this texture. Vice, can you provide the identity of it? I don't imagine it would be another "mex" in the ships folder since it's not applied to ships...

Sure, there is also mex3red.png and mex3yellow.png. The red is also used for the red flaring on Vonari ships.

Ah! I haven't ventured near them yet... So both are in the ships folder (even though, I presume, the yellow is not used on a ship)?

Thanks for the help!

An updated pack is available adding red and yellow textures. Also, the option 1 and option 3 blue flares are a little more blue than they were before.

Still a couple of big horizontal flares I'm seeing -- missile thrust, and part of ship explosions. I think Option 1 would be a good replacement for those if I knew what to name it...!

There are other flare indexes/files, including:

- flare.png (countermeasure flare/flash)
- mex1.png (explosion lens flares/flashes)
- mex2.png (capital ship torpedo flares, missile exhaust, some secondary flare effects)

Thank you! You're awesome.

An updated pack is online now. The mex3 flares have been made brighter but slightly smaller, since they really needed a bright center when they display as capital ship weapon fire. No longer are there "option" textures. Instead, the other shapes of starbursts now are used in the mex2 and mex1 textures for missiles and yellow explosions. (Blue explosions use mex3 instead of a blue mex1, so there's a bit of explosion shape inconsistency unfortunately.)

An example of the bright mex3 textures on a capital ship's engines and capital ship weapon fire:

Would I be able to credit you and throw this into the conversion pack I have on here?
