Since the 2D server program was launched for testing last week, a few problems surfaced that needed to be addressed. Problems included freezing clients, freezing server, garbled characters, and intermittent performance. After several days of testing and troubleshooting, the problem was found to be related to multi-core systems and the program’s encryption/decryption system. The problems did not generally surface with using the program on single core systems. The cause of the problem has been found and should now be fixed in the latest version of the program (1.808).

Several other additions have also been made to the program to help improve its compatibility and reliability with various display modes (although it still is best to use the program on a server box you have direct access to, if possible). Some remote access programs may still have issues working with the program, but VNC and RDP seem to work pretty well with it using the new version.

Important Step: Any time you update the server program, always make sure to back up your text2.dat file -before- installing the update. You can simply open the file in notepad before running the installer, run the installer, then save the file. Or you can copy it to another location, run the installer, then restore the file from the backup location. This will preserve your settings since the installer will put the original default file back in place.

2D Server Program:
- screenmode.txt file with display options added, allows for different rendering modes and fonts. Instructions included.
- Encryption/Decryption system updated for proper compatibility with multi-core systems and various versions of Windows.
- Default rendering mode changed to display mouse-over highlighting and color text.
- Public listing system integrated (requires authorized text2.dat file).
- Various minor stability and compatibility improvements.

3D Server Program:
- New integrity checks to prevent the ‘Object 50 does not exist error’ when the program is interrupted by background tasks/programs. If/when such interference occurs, the program should continue to run, but the display may be white. Press Alt-R to refresh the entire display system of the program.
