Evochron Mercenary 1.588 available...

Version 1.588 is available for download and includes the following improvements:

- New background nebula texture layer added (includes support for customizing).
- Significant multiplayer performance improvements, particularly for slower systems.
- Training mode now keeps text details for each section on screen and includes dividers for improved legibility.
- Ships sending a distress call for rescue now ping their location once players enter the sector.
- Weapon impact physics system updated for more variety and accurate reaction effects.
- Hidden cargo container limits for missiles increased to provide a full rack of 8 per visit.
- Delayed clan control status indicators on quadrant map fixed (server program).
- Station detonator system updated to prevent device failure (server program).
- Voice chat identification system updated to prevent duplicate icon listings.
- Custom quest system updated to support the default encrypted format.
- Additional integrity checks added to map log system.
- Voice chat indicator capacity doubled.
- Several minor bug fixes.


The customizing kit has been updated to include the new background texture options along with several filename changes.

after the upgrade will I need to change the mod filenames?

Depends on the mod files. If you notice anything missing, check the filenames in the latest version of the customizing kit. Most filenames are still the same, only a few things have been changed and added.

EDIT: Several hour tryout yesterday - worked with no glitches in contracts, exploring, trade, combat, hangars, and ship building :)

I was in Orion doing an escort mission and I picked up some ship debris. I had full cargo bays but locked onto another piece of debris and my beam came off my ship (lol)! It was like it was attached to the piece and not my ship as I looked left and right. The debris was flashing on and off also. the beam unlocked when I backed off. May not be a problem worth messing with.:)

woof Tried station detonators today and couldn't get the timer to go. ( Just an fyi for Vice to look into.) There were a couple of people that have reported similarly.

Tried station detonators today and couldn't get the timer to go.
Nothing has really changed with those client-side and one reported issue turned out to be a player moving when trying to deploy one (due to a mouse button being bound to a movement thruster). Do you see an error message when trying to deploy one?

Well, it happened to me also and I was not moving. The SD just would not launch.

Lets try this. Next time it happens, right click on the station to lock the nav point to it, then open the nav console and take/post a screenshot. That should provide a clue as to what is happening.

We found this problem with SD's not working, was the player was too close to the station. A minimum of 1000 seems to work just fine.

Each update is a complete build and replaces everything but your pilots and mods so you should be able to use the main download section as SeeJay posted above.:)

Yesterday I noticed that a couple of stations did not show on my map when I wanted to select them. After I had docked there, they reappeared. Didn't think much of it, but had it again just now so thought I'd let you know.
If you wanna know which stations, let me know and I'll send you a u2u.
