Voiceover Modding

Post by DJO_Maverick »

Hey there-

I'm looking into attempting to mod some of the audio, primarily replacing the voice actors for the wingmen pilots (with otherwise essentially the same lines). Unfortunately, the current "mod kit" isn't extremely helpful for that purpose. Is there any chance of getting access to the sound files for all of the default pilot voiceovers in the interest of one-to-one replacement, or at least perhaps a more detailed script that matches up each pilot with each spoken line and the file names?

On a related note... what are the chances of at some point in the future getting some form of "source kit" that makes all of the default sound files, texture files, and similar non-code-related assets available for alteration and modding? As far as I can tell, the current kit only details how to completely replace existing assets, as opposed to simply modifying them.

Thanks,
-Mav

You're basicly right - it is to replace. To get source-files/textures, contact Vice.

I decided several years ago not to distribute internal game content any more (after content had been ripped off and used elsewhere). There are also licensing conditions for some media that prohibits distributing them outside of a compiled game. So you will be able to replace virtually anything you want with custom media, but the built-in media is not open for public distribution or use. You can, obviously, still use the built-in media as part of the game where desired.

The included media with the customizing kit provides markers and resolution sizes to use for various graphics and it's the best place to start when creating custom content for the game. The descriptions in the readme provide filenames and descriptions of the messages needed. Text for the audio in training missions and campaign missions are available in the mission files themselves.
