Savegame Problem after MP Disconnect

Hello there! A friend and I were playing online on a little closed server I've created for a group of friends, and a bit of a problem has occurred. My friend is playing from a location different than where they usually play, and possibly on a different ISP; as a result, due to what may come down to latency problems, they've been faced with disconnections every time something major happens on the server.

This time, though, the game chose the worst time to have one of these disconnects. They were disconnected just before/during a death, and unwittingly clicked "Save Game" when the disconnect dialog appeared. Now anytime they load their save, whether it be in single or multiplayer game, their ship explodes.

Here's a steam-taken screenshot of 3 of the multiple deaths.

As for my current pilot as shown in the screenshot, this is a character I made specifically to be a military fighter pilot. I already have a pilot who has one of the higher-end civilian ships as well as build and deploy modules. I didn't want to take that character down the military track (as I'd need to hangar his current ship if I wanted to try a fighter) so I just created a new pilot and went from there.

And attached is the save file if anyone would like to see for themselves.

Thanks to Windows 7 making a shadow copy of his pilot file from last night he didn't lose much progress, but what a way to lose a file had that not worked... 200+ kills and many many hours put into the pilot, gone in a freak accident.

If this were to happen in the future, is there any way to salvage the file? Or is the only hope restoring from a backup?
I'm already working on an AutoIt script that'll backup pilot files, so if that's the route we need to take to be safe, it'll be taken care of, even if it does feel a little like save-scumming.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Whoops, sorry it took so long to reply; I forgot that there was an approval process for posting. XD

As it turns out, my friend used the backup Windows 7 made of his pilot file, and is now much further than before from the save file I uploaded here. It looks like no work will need to be done on the old file now.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and I appreciate the timely response for assistance, Vice. Since he has managed to fix his problem nothing will need to be done now, but the assistance is appreciated all the same! :D
I'll let my friends know this information, and possibly direct them to the forums here. There's a lot of useful information and friendly people!
