Naval Reputations
Hello all. Being a big fan of Elite type games, I have known about EM for a long time but have only recently gotten a chance to really explore it and
am kicking myself for not having given it the attention it deserves in the past.
After running missions in Lambda and Olympus for a while and upgrading hulls and mods a few times, the mission pay is starting to feel rather
inadequate, and I'd like to move on to new systems.
My problem is, that I can't seem to go to a new system (for example I'm trying Fauston, but have also tried others) without getting brutally raped by
naval forces. I try to take out all the enemy fighters that attack me (there are MANY), and I usually survive for quite a long time, but eventually
one of the trillions of missiles gets through and I'm dead.
I know I have to build my reputation, and I might be able to jump in and out of stations quickly for the (very long) time it takes to get a good
reputation, but since station force fields offer no protection, this is, for all intents and purposes impossible.
Is there a way of dealing with this problem? Fighting endless waves of fighters might be fun when jumping into a mission, or travelling through
hostile territory, but having to clear out almost every system in the game before even docking would seem to render the game almost unplayable, which
would be truly upsetting.
Additionally, will I lose more reputation for defending myself? This would make it impracticle to ever attain sufficient reputation to move around.

Open your Nav Map (default F1) and check the system reputation on the
right-hand side. If the system is rated as "Fair," you'll have fewer enemy ships to worry about. One such system is Pices ... where combat contracts
seldom (if ever) require you to take on more than four enemy ships at one time. And, unlike Olympus, most of the enemies in Pices are loners ...
meaning they don't have a lot of relatives joining in on the battle after it gets started.

P.S. If you enter the shipyard after docking at a station, you will be safe
from attack ... until you leave the shipyard.

Hey Expanding Man, welcome to the sim and forum! You may wish to consider working the "drift" in the Fair systems such as Cerulean, Orion, Talison,
Virgo, or Alpha Cantauri. (If I missed one or two, I declaim a "Yoda moment"!) The pay-per-contract will differ, system-to-system. And, as you gain
more experience points ( = civ ranking/mil raking), your pay-per-contract will increase up to a certain point. The Moderate and Hostile systems are a
real challenge, regardless of your expertise level. They can be "worked", but require a particular attention focus. Also, to assist you in Moderate/Hostile systems, consider building your own station
(current Clan occupation should also be considered), or purchasing a station license from one of the hard-wired/game-sim stations in the system
location-of-choice. With 5-plus game servers to choose from, this should not be an unrealistic objective. Fauston system is rather unruly towards the
unaware. Would presume you're also aware that in MP-space, the over-all system reputations will NOT change, no matter how much effort is put in.
However, your reputation with the various factions, in MP-space, may be scaled according to the effort (contract/mission completions) you expend. Fair
and Moderate systems will offer the most contracts, Good and Hostile systems offer the least. I've never seen or heard of anyone loosing reputation
for defending themselves. You gain rep by performing the contracts for the various factions. If you work the "law-and-order" side of the street,
you'll gain rep with Navy, Energy, and Miners. If you work the "other side of the street", you'll gain rep with the Guild and Rebel factions. It is up
to you whom you work for, as always. Hope this helps some. Best of Luck!
We'll see yaz out dere sometime!
P.S. Ya, whut Marv said too !

Thanks for all of your replies. I think perhaps I might be in the wrong systems. I thought that default reputation scaled approximately with
proximity to Sapphire, but certainly some of the systems you mentioned are further than Faustus. I thought about building a station to get myself
started, but I haven't been in any systems yet where I can actually buy one! I'll try exploring further out and see where it takes me.

Spoiler Alert
To build up your supply of credits, you can do some mining in Atlas ... it's
a high-tech star system void of hostilities. When you acquire enough cash, buy a Build Constructor ... then use it to build a trade station in your
chosen location (some clans require you to ask before building if it's in their territory). Any station you build comes with the station license and
will, therefore, protect you from most hostile attacks once you're docked. Note: you will need a little extra cash to actually use the Build
Constuctor.
