I used to play Freelancer religiously. I played one of the user created mods with great joy for a couple of years.

Recently I've been looking for a space sim that would let me relive those days. I googled some random things like "action space sim" and after a few failed attempts at some other games, found EM.

I've only been playing for about 2 days now, but I'm really liking it and getting the hang of things (not difficult at all if you've played sims in the past, especially some of the X games). I still have to try out multiplayer, but I'm hoping it lives up to the rest of the game.

Jump into MP. Most people there will be helpful. You are welcome on my server, Starpot 6, centrally located in the USA. There's also Crest of Stars, located in Arizona USA I believe. If you are in the UK, Galactica 1 would probably give you the best ping. Not sure where the others are located, except the German server, and I assume it's in Germany:D

@Janus Thanks! I actually did try it by accident, though I didn't play for very long. I'll have to jump on again soon and give it another round.

facebook.

i put steam on "i like it" and get regular updates on new releases on my facbook board.
steam has summer sales right now and EM was part of it, so i didn't care about the 5 and a half euro.
i'm a DOS child and grew up with the original prince of persia and frontier elite 2.
tried alot of similar games and i put alot of hope into "infinity - the quest for earth", but this developement longs for years now and doesn't come to an end.. elite 4? no new infos.. so maybe EM will be my valhalla for now
:D

Other: Steam Summer Sale

Old school DOS Simulation gamer like many others here (Tie Fighter, Mechwarrior, Wing Commander, MFS, etc). I've had my eye on X3 for months but I can't get over the fact that it isn't multiplayer. I saw this on Steam Summer Sale as well and decided that I would purchase it.

:( X3 doesn't have planetside transitions ... nor is space one great, big universe. It's a lot of little (sometimes big) boxes.

I first heard about Evochron in PC Gamer's September 2012 issue in which they reviewed it and awarded it a very respectable score of 76%. Their description of the game peaked my interest, especially the first sentence which reads, "There's nothing quite as liberating as finding yourself in the middle of the universe with your own ship, a million possible destinations and nothing to do except make your own fun."

I've never been a "space" kind of guy. I have no experience with past space-based games and I'm not even a fan of television shows or movies dealing with the subject. The moment I downloaded Evochron's demo and began exploring with my own spaceship -- seamlessly traveling from space to the surfaces of planets, receiving distress calls from fellow ships, and so forth -- I was hooked and immediately decided to purchase the game from Steam. Coincidentally, it was featured during the Summer Sale for roughly $6.00. The rest, as they say, is history.

I do have a fairly large YouTube channel that features Doom map-making tutorials, so perhaps that's where you've seen or heard of me! :P

Never heard of the game till I saw it during the steam summer sale. Big fan of space sims privateer, eve, x series etc but they are all played out. Nice to have something new to suck away all my free time.

I saw a video on youtube (Atmospheric Transition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-THy0CKo6o), then for about a few months I forgot about it, then went through steam games, and I saw this on it, and got it. Been playing it quite a bit since then. :D

Steam Summer Sales, the moment I saw the title "Evo..." I already imagined planting an planet-crushing bomb on Venus' surface (I hate Venus)

A long, long time ago, looking for worthy space games on some remote text-only forum someone recommended it.

I've been playing on and off and losing my key for years. I've bought it 3 times due to my laziness (not bothering contacting customer support). Last time on Steam, for good. I think it's worth every penny!

Found it on Steam. This is an awesome game! If I had known it was out there, I'd have bought it stand alone years ago! Glad I found it.

I saw the game on Steam and bought it during a sale. I love it.

Yep... like with the others, I 'googled' various keyword searches. I had 1000's of hours on Elite/Oolite and many hundreds in Jumpgate (before it's 'demise') - and I was thinking how much I missed Jumpgate [at $24.95 per month no less - it can only be played online! :o]. After trying the demo of Legends for an afternoon, I bought it. Then, 2 days later, I tried Mercenary (didn't know of it at the time, or differences, and bought IT too! That whole cycle started 4-6 days ago. I'm hooked! This game is sooo much like Jumpgate. But soooo much better! And your SP and MP game can switch back and forth too! As soon as I get 'up to speed' (I'm now to where I can handle up to 4 enemies with little trouble), I'll bounce online....

A couple of days ago, for a reason I cannot explain, a single word came to my mind: Privateer. Along with that thought came some very strong emotions.

I cannot remember the story, I cannot remember the gameplay, but I can remember one thing: when I was playing that game, I was the Privateer.

I was the one fighting for my life to keep a cargo hold full of stuff I had worked really hard to get.

I was the one keeping a poker face and trying not to show how ecstatic I was at the sight of all the money I was making on cargo I had paid dirt cheap in another system.

I had to relive those moments.

And I did the right thing: I did not go on the web to reload Privateer. In my book, video games do not age well at all, and loading Privateer would have crushed all the fond memories and emotions connected to that title.

Instead, I looked for something recent and from one web site to another and one review to another I found myself on http://www.starwraith.com

Back in 2006/7 I was looking around the internet for an elite type space trading game and found Evochron Alliance which I immediately bought and loved it.
Unfortunately for me my pc was not up to the later versions. Thankfully I recently bought a new pc with intel core i5 and 8gb ram, (of course I've bought EM as well), so now I can get back to playing my favourite game and see what I've been missing :)

Well, I've heard about Evochron in 2006 - by google'ing. I was simply amazed. Now I'm prepared to buy Mercenary - although I want Alliance also and maybe Legends and Renegade...but this what I REALLY want is time!!!
