Windows 7 RC (32bit) - with Home Premium pre-ordered at discounted price.

I find Windows 7 to be fast, smooth and very reliable. Have tried Vista (32bit) but had lots of problems with some of my programs and I hated all that hard disk activity grinding away for no apparent reason - even with all the so called goodies turned off.

Windows 7 gives no problems, - hell, some of my programs that refused to work under Vista all run in Win 7 straight out of the box. I also find 7 to be faster and have more features than XP.

I understand that Win 7 has been rebuilt around the Vista kernel, so this might suggest that 7 is what Vista should have been in the first place.

I have 4 computers so have 4 OSs installed. Vista64, XP, Win2KPro, and Ubuntu. Vista64 is where Evochron is installed to. Ubuntu I am about to wipe and try Mint Linux. Have already pre-ordered Win7 Upgrade Home Premium for $64.99 CAD too.

One thing that seems odd and don't know if it is caused by Vista64 or what but why does Evochron isntall to both C: and D: HDD when I told it to install to D: only? I have Evochron game files installed in folders on both C: and D: which seems odd. Is that normal? Looks like config files are on C: and data files are on D:

Hey warsing, I downloaded all your cockpit mods to check them out, thanks. Only problem is there is no readme.txt file telling us how to get them working in the game. Just putting the files in the folder or in their own folder does nothing. Please write a reame.txt file for your mods.

Hi Barreta, I am also singer, for this reason I gladly accept "warsing"! :)

You can find details in customizing kit.
It says:

To customize the Heads-Up-Display and cockpit textures, use a directory name of \hud and use the following file names for each aspect of the HUD/cockpit you want to modify.

Must be one "hud" directory under the main game directory and copy mod files in it.
And turn on your 3d cockpit in the options menu.

Thanks...

OK, sing for me. :) I'm new to EL so didn't know anything about that kit. Had to come back to the forum and downloaded someone else's cockpit mod and it had a readme that told me what I was doing wrong. I am still using one of your cockpits though as I liked one of them better, thanks.

I'm on Vista, but will upgrade to 7 as soon as it's available. I have already tested and have another machine running it on trial mode.

My other computer is an Athlon XP 2600 with 2GB RAM and a Radeon 9550 (AGP). It's very smooth on that aging PC.

I think you're on the mark there.... takes some trial-n-error to pick up the new stuff.

Vista 64 here (wasn't really by 'choice'.... my dinosaur of a laptop kicked the bucket a few weeks ago, so I had to pick up a new one :P 'course, if it wasn't for the new one, I wouldn't be able to run EL)

You have to open up Warsigns folder and copy the files into another folder (Hud) which you have to create within the EL files.

So, open up the Warsign Hud folder, Ctrl A to highlight all the files, then Ctrl C, then Ctrl V in the new Hud file.

That's how I managed it.

If you think about it, the XP, vista and Win 7 are like flying ships in evochron. XP is like the regular civvie ships, not necessarily the best but reliable and works great. Vista is like the Leviathan. It looks good when you look at the stats, extra armor (the added security in vista) but when you use it, you realise that its just slow and very awkward, and the armor doesn't help at all. You only grasp the full extent of how much it sucks when you finally get the military ships (like win 7, amirite?) and realise how much the levi (vista) pales in comparison. Then you go try the old civvie ships (XP) and notice that even though they're considered to be older and on a lesser level of advancement than the leviathan (vista) they're still much, much better.

XP fell out of favour with me around sp3 , upon trying Vista I found that there was increased performance on even lower end machines, though at the cost of the memory footprint, which usually also had an effect on games. I've not had a proper look at 7 yet, but I'm hoping that it's as good as the reports I've heard.

I've never been able to get linux to run an evochron game, though my knowledge is rather limited. I use linux on a regular basis, though all my own machines run windows ( either for games. or for work, or in the case of my Eeepc linux pain a right pain ) though apart from the nightmare that installing programs can be I've found most flavours to be fast, light and reliable ( though some are lighter, some are faster ).

If you are interested in linux I'd suggest puppy or slaxx both can be trialled on a machine from a cd rom or boot disk so you can try it at no risk

i used to dual boot p & ubuntu linux, but then xp decided to break and i couldn't find my disk, (recovery segments never work) so i wiped the xp partition and gave the whole computer over to ubuntu, but then when win 7 RC came out i installed it, found it actually ran FASTER than linux so i deleted lin ux as it was not much use for gaming and here we are... so yeah, i've used linux

I never used Linux and I know nothing about it. Why people want to use it? Because of viruses, working fast, small on HDD or something else?

I intended to try some versions (many versions available), some journals give them for free sometimes but never did. :(

I know some versions can work only on CD without installing it. Always I thought "awesome" but had no experience.
