Messing about with the sound

hey folks, great to be part of this community and really getting into the game

As i tend to fly without the IDS running and prefer to afterburn to 4K then switch to inertia on my heading, the cockpit can get kinda quiet on those long journeys ... how then could i use the mechanical humming sound that can be heard on the main menu if no music is selected in the game. I imagine i should be able to somehow swap this sound file to that of in game music and have it humming away in the background to give me some ambient sound

Rob

any help would be greatly appreciated;)

Actually, you'll want to turn on the music and place the humming sound effect in the \music folder under the filename evoambient.wav. This way, it will just constantly loop in the background as an ambient sound effect. Send me a quick e-mail and I will send you the humming sound effect.

I am currently running the same way. I have the default music file replaced with ambient noise. I have also replaced the default tractor sound since I'm fond of parking my ship and flipping the mine beam on when I'm too busy in real life to actively play but I still want to :). My replacement tractor sound is a little less grating when you have to listen to it for extended periods ;) (at least I think so).

I got Pariahs tractor wav, put it in the sounds folder and it works great, but the old tractor wav is still there ... how do go about removing that?

Hmm that's odd. I've never had that problem nor have I had to disable any of the stock in game sounds.... they typically disable themselves when a mod sound file is present.

Possible bug?

Are you saying both are playing at the same time? I'm not sure why the custom sound works great, but you can still hear the old one? Pariah is right, when you replace the old sound, the new one is used by default.

I thought that was the case, but the original "whirrrrr-thump-clank" tractor wav plays along with the new one ... I'll try deleting the sound folder and re-adding it, see what that does ...

Oh, the station tractor beam. That's an entirely different sound effect. Use the filename 'dock.wav' in the sounds folder to replace that one. You can use the same sound you use for the mining/tractor beam if you just copy it to the other filename.

Sorry Vice, I wasnt clear, it actually is the tractor/mining beam sound thats a problem at the moment, not the station tractor. I deleted and recreated the sounds folder and added Pariahs tractor/mining wav back in, but no change ... still getting the old and the new tractor/mining wav at the same time. I'll do some more messing around and post the results later.
Fly safe :)

Are you talking about the item deposit sound? That also is a separate sound effect. Use the filename weapload.wav
