This HUD is specialized for navigation. It's my first HUD attempt. I'd share it if I had a place to host it.
I wanted more lines on the pitch tape, but I didn't want them occluding my view of my prey, so I widened the tape.
The lines are at 2 degree increments: close enough to get a pretty good pitch heading.

Nice work there!
I'd be happy to host it for you Nigel, I'm currently hosting a mod for another user on this site. I'll send you a U2U.
If anyone else wants anything hosted, please let me or someone else on the boards know so we can all see your creations
Karin is right, if you need it hosted somewhere I've got space and bandwidth
You can also have it hosted through filefront.com.
You can now download Nigel_Strange's HUD here:

Thanks Nigel!
Thanks for hosting, Karin!
Thanks for the tip, Eclipse. I'll try that next time.
Good to see, my hud is transforming everyday
Nice job my friend.
What is next? A nice cockpit?
I know you can do it...
Thanks for the link also.
Warsign, I do like your approach to the MFDs (also pictured). The HUD, though, is original (and is all that is packaged in the file). Sorry I didn't
give you credit for the MFDs, which I use all the time (I know: everything in the cockpit goes into the "hud" folder, so it's an academic
distinction).
A screenshot showing the hud without part of the cockpit would have looked a bit weird.
So just to clarify, only the HUD (the gunsight, shadow, and the pitch ladder) is included in the file: Warsign's MFDs (also pictured) are not
included. If you want the MFDs, you'll need to go to Warsign's mod page.
Warsign: I'm also eagerly anticipating your new Evoch cockpits.

Yes, I thought I recognized the center MFD from the vector hud set, which I also use elements from (though none are shown here). I particularly like the iconic alerts. When a missile is bearing down on you, who has time to read?
Added a little color to your hud tape and the compass tape I have been using so my bad eyes could tell my angles better.

Looks nice, thetiebers.
Nice work!!!
I've been working on an update that has a new pitch tape. I also experimented with lines instead of circles. I'm not sure which I like the most. Colors too. I expect the update will have a few different options.
Cool Nigel_Strange, looking forward to seeing it.
Hmm. OK. I have some new huds (a basic design with several color options) but it seems that filefront is currently down for maintenance (at least, the
file hosting part). I will post when this function becomes available again.
The navigation hud variants come in these colors:
amber
blue
blue and amber
"deepspace" (a darkside blend of blue and red)
green
Nav 2 tone (blue gunsight and 2-tone pitch ladder with colors corresponding to positive and negative directions)
silver
Below is a picture of the 2 tone one so you get the idea.

It is really big !!!
Thank you...
I blew it up to avoid getting the mfds in the picture.
Also, the numbers got more and more distorted the smaller I made them.
I found that there is not a 1:1 correspondence between the image size in development and that in operation. It gets scrunched a bit, so it is a chore
to get everything aligned correctly because you can't see how it's going to turn out until you load it into the game.

I made some tweaks to the hud, as comments suggested that it was embarrassingly large, and who wants that?
The new hud design has a more slender profile and more clearly marked horizon indicators.
Also, the hud tape transitions from bright blue to deep red as you go further from the ecliptic plane. There's no real purpose to this, other than it
looks cool, and it might help you orient faster.
I could do an amber version as well, as the amber seems to be more visible against blue nebulae and planetary atmospheres.
Anyway, here's a pic. I'll try to get a host for the files if anyone is interested.

nice.
in RL huds are given green for day and yellow for night. be nice to see an adaptation of this in evochron for the transition to planetary atmospheres.
it would also help with viewing the cargo and location information.
Looks cool!

Hello Nigel_Strange, hope to be able to try that soon.
I'll ask Karin to host it as soon as I find out what color(s) you want. Maybe I should make a poll?
If it's too complicated, I might not do it.
Amber looks pretty good for overall visibility. Blue just looks nice, I think, and green too.
I like your new versions, thank you.
Mmmmmm!, maybe some body qouted one of your post under here, I do that lots of time by mistake qoute other peoples post in the wrong post, to many
posts to figure out were to post your posts and quotes inside qoutes and posts!

Thanks to Karin for posting these!

Most of you know what to do with these files, but if not...
First: ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR FILES BEFORE YOU COPY THESE INTO YOUR GAME DIRECTORY. I don't want you to lose other files you might have, and I'm not
responsible if you ignore this warning.
1. When you download the file, unzip it. You'll see several folders named after colors.
2. If you have a HUD directory in your EL install directory, back up the hudtape b2gun and b2gunshadow files (so you don't overwrite them). If you
don't have a hud directory, don't panic: just create one ;-)
3. From the unzipped folders, choose a color you want to use and copy the contents to your hud folder in your game installation directory. If there
are files in that folder they will be overwritten, so back them up first.
4. If you're feeling adventurous, try one of the hudtapes from the alternate colors folder. Some of them are pretty spiffy (I like the amberglow
myself). If you choose to use these alternate color hudtapes, you'll have to rename them to "hudtape.bmp."
Oh, did I mention you should back up your files? Just checking

Hi Nigel_Strange, I am terrible at modding and I really like your nav hud, But, (always a but somewhere) I was hoping you could (or tell me how to)
move the two hud tapes a little closer together. the reason I ask is I have some other info on the screen that I can't seem to figure out how to
move and they mix together. Any help would be appreciated.
The hud tape is actually a scrolling image superimposed over the screen. You would have to either get a new tape or use an image editor to move them
together.
As for how to move the extra info around, I'm useless for that. Never tried.

Hi, thetiebers,
Ian2454 is right: it's an image superimposed on the screen. Actually, I believe that it is an image that is attached to an invisible 3d object, like
a cylinder, so that you can see only the numbers.
The number bands were moved away from the center in order to prevent obstructing the central view, which I was concerned about because of the
additional lines. It might be possible to create one that is right in the center, for instance, but you wouldn't be able to see what you're shooting
at.
One compromise might be to put the band in the middle, but fade it out some, so that it is not so salient. You might still be able to use it for
navigation (under the right lighting conditions) and it shouldn't block your view of your target (much). I could try this approach, if you think it
would be worth it.
